Press On Nails 101
What are press on nails?
Press ons are full‑cover nail tips that are applied to the natural nail with glue in 10 mins or less and last for up to 14 days. If prepped and removed properly the nails are designed to be reusable.
Why use press on nails?
If you've ever left a two‑hour $100+ salon visit, with half of your natural nail filed off, and facing the classic “what I asked for vs. what I got” disappointment, you'll understand why so many are turning to press on nails. They are far more convenient and budget friendly than going to the salon.
With Inspired Nails you choose the design, shape, and length up front and receive exactly that—durable nails, customizable art, and zero appointment time.
Each tip is hand painted over an acrylic full cover tip with gel polish, so they look and wear exactly like a professional gel set—because they are.
How do I apply and remove my press on nails?
Prepping your natural nails
Before we get to the fun part, it’s crucial to prep your natural nails.
- Buff the Nails: Gently buff your nails by using the an emery board. This creates a smooth surface for the tips to adhere to.
- Shape Your Nails: Use the emery board to shape your nails if needed.
- Clean with Alcohol: Wipe your nails with an alcohol pad to remove any dust and oils. Clean nails mean a longer-lasting bond!
Applying the nails
- Apply a thin layer of nail glue to the inside of the tip and your natural nail.
- Press the tip onto your nail with a 45 degree angle and hold for 5-10 seconds.
- The firmer the pressure the better the bond.
- Remember, this is a longer commitment, so be sure you’re ready to rock these nails for at least a week!
Removing the nails
There are two ways of removal
First option: Soaking
- Soak your nails in warm soapy water for about 10-15 minutes to loosen the adhesive. You may use a bit of rubbing alcohol or acetone to speed up the process.
- Use wood nail stick or cuticle pusher to carefully lift the tips off your nails.
- Remove any leftover adhesive with cuticle oil and gently buff your nails.
Second option: Remover (My preferred method)
- Use a nail glue remover. I prefer the brand CurvLife although there are many other brands that work just as well!
- Apply the glue remover around all edges of the nail.
- Use a cuticle pusher or nail stick to gently lift and create a gap between your natural nail and the artificial nail.
- Apply more remover in the gap so that it can really get under the artificial nail.
- Use your cuticle pusher or nail stick to gently pry the nails off. This should not hurt. If you feel any pain stop and apply more remover and let it sit for 15-20 seconds.
- Remove any leftover adhesive with cuticle oil and gently buff your nails.
Reusing the nails
Most sets can be reused 2-3 times if you are removing them properly. After removal gently file the old glue off the back of the nail and wipe with acetone. Store the nails in a safe place until you are ready to use them again!
